The introduction of Eocycle's 25kW direct drive wind turbine has drawn a lot of attention from the WINDPOWER 2009 attendees. Featuring proprietary Eocycle's high performance generator, visitors could learn more about the upwind, twin-bladed EO 25/12. The Eocycle team present at the show provided explanations about the high torque, low variable speed generator, turbine and controls enabling the EO 25/12 to deliver superior annual energy production in a package that requires extremely low maintenance and exhibits quiet operation.
They also demonstrated why the EO 25/12 is well adapted to areas difficult to access, having no heavy machinery available or prone to severe weather. With the lightest weight and size in its category, the EO 25/12 can be supplied very competitively with a 24m guyed pole tower that can be lowered to the ground for maintenance or in the event of hurricanes or tornadoes. Fixed monopole towers of 24m, 30m and 36m are also offered for more typical grid tied, net-metering applications.
Eocycle furthermore stated that prototype testing had been carried out for the last 18 months and would continue for a few months. Production of the EO 25/12 is scheduled to start during the first quarter of 2010 after electrical certification and independent noise and power production tests are completed. During these activities, Eocycle plans to establish its network of dealers, resellers and installers such that a complete offering of products and services be available to customers once volume production begins. Eocycle also announced that a 50kW is planned to be introduced by the end of 2010 and that a stand-alone, off-grid system could be released within a similar timeframe if market studies are conclusive.
